Late-stage editing

Nov. 2 feels so far away, right? But it isn’t. In fact, it’s just around the corner — especially if you have a book due and revisions that still need to be completed.

So I might have some procrastination issues. Who knew?

Seriously, this is one way that having had a newspaper career is really helping me: I can face down a deadline and not worry about whether I’m going to hit it. Of course, my approach to this might worry my editor(s), so I’ll have to keep that in mind.

Right now, we’re looking at venues for the book launch party. There are several places under consideration, but the leading candidate right now seems to be Wilhagan’s, a local pub here in Tuscaloosa. There’s also the work of putting together signings, readings, interviews, etc. Seems like a lot of work, but hopefully it will be worth it.

Of course, the biggest thing right now other than the book is the baby on the way. Yikes! We just went for our first ultrasound last week, and everything looked normal. Our due date is March 27. This probably shows my horrible sense of humor, but I kind of hope the little bugger holds out until April 1.

And that’s the dispatch from this writing life today — things continue apace.
