I’ve now passed 30,000 words on the manuscript … not much of a milestone when you realize it’s *almost* a third of the way through the book, but it definitely signals that I’m moving out of the land of the novella and into the borders of a full-fledged novel.
With that in mind, I’ve set myself a new goal — 2,000 words a day for the next week. That’s right. By Saturday, I want to be staring at 40,000 words. I’ll have much more a sense of the shape of the story by that time — and if I can do that for two weeks, I’ll be halfway done with the manuscript. Yeah, I’ve decided 100,000 words probably isn’t out of the question for this book.
I’ve also set myself up some obstacles. Just bought Stephen King’s new book, Under the Dome … and I want to do nothing but read it all the time until I’ve plowed through it. But this week should be a good lesson in writing discipline. Wish me luck!
